Description

The course tackles the challenges posed by the teaching of mathematics today. Its main aim is to help pupils acquire concepts comprehensively as well as develop their reasoning skills. All the activities use familiar, easily accessible exercise types to facilitate the learning process for pupils with elementary reading skills. Part 3A includes the following 5 chapters:

Chapter 1
The first chapter provides practice in the times tables. The 2-5 times tables are revised in the third grade and the 6-9 times tables are studied for the first time.

Chapter 2
In the second chapter pupils are introduced to division exercises. Division is covered straight after multiplication work in order to reinforce the use of multiplication in division.

Chapter 3
The third chapter reinforces the mental arithmetic skills required in adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. Adding and subtracting three-digit numbers by carrying and exchanging are reviewed in this chapter. Exchanging past zero is also introduced.

Chapter 4
The fourth chapter handles geometry. Pupils learn to classify quadrilaterals and to calculate the perimeter of a polygon. The chapter also offers practice with symmetry.

Chapter 5
Chapter five can be used in a variety of ways, as no new topics are introduced. The chapter provides revision exercises, practice in extracting information from texts, pictures and charts, as well as verbal problem-solving tasks.
