Description
The course tackles the challenges posed by the teaching of mathematics today. Its main aim is to help pupils acquire concepts comprehensively as well as develop their reasoning skills. All the activities use familiar, easily accessible exercise types to facilitate the learning process for pupils with elementary reading skills. Part 2A includes the following chapters:
Chapter 1
The first chapter revises addition and subtraction past whole tens and reinforces command of the number field 0-100.
Chapter 2
In the second chapter the number field remains under 100, but more demanding mental arithmetic is introduced. Number field 0-100 can be conveniently illustrated with tools such as an abacus, a hundred square grid and a number line.
Chapter 3
In the third chapter pupils are introduced to multiplication and study the 2-5 times tables. Teaching multiplication at this early stage enables continuous revision throughout the year in additional tasks and homework exercises.
Chapter 4
The fourth chapter extends the number field to 1,000. The new number field is tackled with the help of drawings and tools that help reinforce pupils’ comprehension of the place value.
