Description

The key aim of this course is to help pupils acquire concepts comprehensively as well as develop their reasoning skills. All the activities use familiar, easily accessible exercise types to facilitate the learning process for pupils with elementary reading skills. Part 1B includes the following chapters:

Chapter 1
The first chapter reinforces pupils’ skills with numbers from 0 to 20 and practises subtraction with a two-digit subtrahend. The exercises are aimed at improving the pupils’ understanding of place value and the decimal system before making a start on calculating past ten.

Chapter 2
The second chapter concentrates on adding past ten. It is important to practise the calculations until they become automatic.

Chapter 3
Subtracting past ten will be learned in chapter three.

Chapter 4
Chapter four handles geometry and measuring. First of all pupils learn to recognise solids: spheres, cuboids, cones and cylinders. Pupils also practise recognition of plane shapes such as circles, quadrilaterals and triangles. Measuring in centimetres with a ruler is studied in this chapter too.

Chapter 5
In the fifth chapter the number field is extended to one hundred. It is essential for pupils to understand the connection between the numeral, quantity and symbol, and to practise number sequences forwards and backwards from a given number.
