Description

The course tackles the challenges posed by the teaching of mathematics today. Its main aim is to help pupils acquire concepts comprehensively as well as develop their reasoning skills. All the activities use familiar, easily accessible exercise types to facilitate the learning process for pupils with elementary reading skills. Part 1A includes the following chapters:

Chapter 1 and 2
The first chapter revises the command and written representation of numbers 0-5 and the second chapter reviews notation of addition and subtraction.

Chapter 3
Chapter 3 introduces numbers 6-9, and addition and subtraction tasks with these numbers. Most pupils are able to form connection between the numeral, quantity and symbol. Number concept is being reinforced here by decomposition exercises, number sequences and use of pictures as a base for calculation notation. The production of pupils’ own calculations can be practised in the corresponding additional activities.

Chapter 4
In chapter 4 pupils acquaint themselves with the decimal system when learning numbers 10-16. When moving to two-digit-numbers, it is important to ensure pupils’ understanding of place value by providing enough practice with tools and practical exercises.

Chapter 5
Numbers 17–20 and Euros are introduced in chapter 5. Additions and subtractions are practised here on numbers 0-20 within full tens.
